Leadership is one of the factors that determine employee performance in an organization. The leadership role is carried out by a leader, the success of an organization depends on the leadership role of the leader. The purpose of this study was to describe the role of leadership on employee performance in BAPPEDA, North Sumatra Province. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, the research location is at the North Sumatra Province BAPPEDA office in March 2022. There are 3 informants in the study, namely the head of the North Sumatra Province BAPPEDA, the Head of the General and Civil Service Subdivision and 1 Employee Staff. Data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the leadership role of the head of BAPPEDA of North Sumatra Province has been carried out optimally and has a positive effect on employee performance. Although it has not been fully implemented well, every year there is an increase in employee discipline and performance.
