Peran Sektor Parisiwata Dalam Meningkatkan Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Sumatera Utara

Abstract

Currently the tourism sector in North Sumatra is increasing. Many domestic and foreign people choose to vacation in North Sumatra. Tourism development has an important role in encouraging economic activity, enhancing Indonesia's image, improving people's welfare, and providing expanded employment opportunities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the tourism sector in North Sumatra's economic growth. This research method is using qualitative methods. The data source in this study is from the official BPS. The results of this study indicate that the role of the tourism sector is able to reduce poverty and unemployment rates in North Sumatra. In 2016-2019 the level of poverty and unemployment in Indonesia has decreased. Whereas in 2020 it has increased. From the author's analysis, this increase was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic which placed restrictions on domestic and foreign tourists. This is known from the number of transportation users in North Sumatra in 2020 which has decreased.
